Fable & Fairytale

The studio
behind
the magic
One artist, a studio in Weston, Missouri, and furniture that reads like a storybook.

Old furniture,
new stories
Fable & Fairytale is the studio of artist Kimberly Stiles. She makes and refinishes vintage furniture in a luxurious, whimsical style, and many of her designs have a magical, fairytale quality.
Inspired by folklore, botanicals and old-world ornament, each piece pairs solid vintage construction with sculpted detail and richly layered finishes. Nothing is mass-produced, and nothing is made twice.
Reviving well-built furniture that’s already in the world is sustainable by nature, and it gives every piece a second story.
Inside
the studio
Where it all happens in Weston, Missouri: shelves of paints, waxes and molds, and a few pieces waiting for their turn.

From vintage find
to fairytale heirloom
Step 1
Sourcing
It starts with good bones: solid mahogany, maple and cherry pieces with dovetail joinery, some from makers like Stanley.

Step 2
Restoration
Each piece is restored from top to bottom, keeping original details like solid brass pulls and cut crystal knobs.

Step 3
Sculpture
Flowers, fairies, mushrooms, moths and creatures are cast by hand, one at a time, then arranged and affixed to the piece.

Step 4
Finishing
Layers of paint, glaze, ombré blends and gilding in gold, bronze or copper build the depth you see up close.
